Bad faith trademark registrations are one of the most significant challenges facing international brands seeking to operate in China

The number of Chinese trademark registrations has grown significantly in recent years, reaching 5,750,000 in 2017. Of these, a substantial proportion are made in bad faith, with one individual having applied for more than 9,000 trademark registrations alone.
