Consultation workshop on Geographical Indication (GI) protection and administration strategies

ASEAN IP Offices & Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations' public sector is holding Consultation a workshop on Geographical Indication (GI) protection and administration strategies in Siem Reap, Cambodia. 

Fabrice Mattei is a consultant to the FAO on developing and implementing GI strategies in South East Asia and India for ASEAN IP Offices and local applicants. Within this mandate, he has been preparing and filing several geographical indications in those countries including Kampot Pepper, Kampong Speu Palm Sugar from Cambodia, Lamphun Brocade Thai Silk from Thailandand Hai Hau Rice Shan Tuyet Moc Chau Tea and Van Yen cinnamon from Vietnam.

Fabrice will be presenting three strategic papers to FAO and ASEAN IP Offices at this public sector consultation workshop. The papers will cover respectively (i) ASEAN regional GI guide for applicants (ii) comparative analysis between GI legislations and examination practices of ASEAN countries (iii) recommendation for harmonizing GI legislations in ASEAN including simplification and possible facilitation of mutual recognition of registered GI and priority proposed actions and plan of actions, GI Prosecution Highways ("GIPH").
